The Challenge

Background

When the client first approached me, they had a bold idea—launch a streetwear brand inspired by the raw, unapologetic vibe of the early 2000s. Beyond that aesthetic direction, everything else was a blank slate. In an already oversaturated streetwear market, the real challenge was clear: create something that didn’t just blend in but stood out—something personal, authentic, and unmistakably unique.

The first step was to craft a name that captured the brand’s distinct perspective—a name with attitude and meaning. From there, the mission was to build a visual and brand identity that would carve out a space of its own, setting the brand apart while staying true to its roots.

Goals

The goal was clear: create a brand that felt both nostalgic and completely fresh — something that captured the raw energy of early 2000s streetwear while standing out in today’s landscape. Since streetwear has always been about pushing boundaries in both fashion and marketing, this project needed a bold approach — one that resonated with a specific audience but in a way that felt entirely unique.

Beyond just aesthetics, the brand had to be instantly recognizable, memorable, and premium — yet still deeply rooted in street culture. It had to speak to a younger audience and millennials alike, blending exclusivity with authenticity, and carving out a strong identity in an already competitive space.

Constraints

One of the biggest challenges in this project was the tight timeline—everything had to come together quickly, from brand identity to clothing design. On top of that, finding inspiration wasn’t easy. While the early 2000s aesthetic was a clear direction, there weren’t many brands fully embracing that era in a way that felt authentic and fresh. This meant a lot of the creative work had to come from scratch, combining subtle references with a modern edge.

Another key constraint was budget. The client had a fixed budget not just for branding but also for clothing production, which meant every decision—from materials to printing techniques—had to be carefully considered. Balancing quality with cost while maintaining the premium feel of the brand was a challenge, but it also pushed the creative process in a more intentional direction.

The Approach

Research

With streetwear being a highly competitive space, extensive market research and competitor analysis were essential. There were countless brands out there, each carving their own niche, so understanding where this brand could stand out was a key part of the process.

The early 2000s aesthetic was gaining momentum on social media, with millennials and younger audiences embracing fashion, tech, and entertainment from that era. Timing was everything—we needed a precise and swift approach to tap into this resurging trend.

To shape the brand’s direction, I collaborated closely with the client, diving deep into inspiration—old techno rave posters, the raw, chaotic feel of early internet culture, and even Tumblr’s golden era. This research phase proved invaluable, helping us craft a brand identity that felt both nostalgic and fresh, rooted in the past but designed for today’s audience.

Design Process

The creative process started with the most crucial element—finding the right name. This wasn’t just about choosing something catchy; it had to be memorable, meaningful, and instantly recognizable. It was the foundation of the brand’s identity, making it one of the most time-intensive parts of the project.

Once the name was locked in, the next challenge was to bring it to life visually. The logo design was the first step, setting the tone for the entire identity. Rather than a fixed look, the idea was to keep the logo fluid—able to adapt to different early 2000s aesthetics like chrome effects, melting textures, and transparency.

The color palette was intentionally minimal, allowing the brand’s visual elements to take center stage. Typography was bold and impactful, creating a strong presence while leaving space for custom typefaces that could evolve with the brand’s communication style. Every design choice was made to balance nostalgia with modernity, ensuring the brand felt fresh yet deeply rooted in its inspiration.

Tools Used

Bringing this brand to life required a mix of tools, each playing a key role in different stages of the design process. Adobe Illustrator was the primary software, essential for crafting the visual identity and ensuring everything was optimized for both digital and print.

For more detailed visual elements and effects, Adobe Photoshop came into play, helping refine graphics and experiment with textures that aligned with the early 2000s aesthetic. Figma served as a collaborative space, used for moodboards and seamless communication with the client, ensuring every creative decision stayed aligned with the brand’s vision.

The Solution

Key Features

What makes this brand truly stand out is its fluidity—both in its identity and how it adapts visually. The simplicity of the logo, colors, and typography serves as a foundation, allowing the real focus to be on the ever-evolving graphical elements that bring it to life.

Gradients, reflective surfaces, and unconventional materials play a huge role in shaping the brand’s aesthetic. Whether it’s chrome finishes, melting effects, or transparent overlays, every element is designed to feel dynamic and visually striking. This approach not only captures the nostalgic energy of early 2000s streetwear but also ensures the brand remains fresh, bold, and instantly recognizable.

The Outcome

Client Feedback

Working with Nemanja on this project was an incredible experience. From the very beginning, he understood my vision for the brand—even when all I had was a vague idea of an early 2000s-inspired streetwear label. He not only helped shape the brand’s identity but also guided me through every step, from naming to the final visual direction.

What impressed me the most was his ability to take a familiar aesthetic and make it feel completely fresh and unique. His attention to detail, deep understanding of typography and design trends, and ability to balance simplicity with boldness really made this brand stand out.

Beyond the creative work, communication was seamless, and every idea was backed by solid research and strategic thinking. I couldn’t be happier with the result, and I highly recommend working with Nemanja if you want a brand that truly makes an impact!

Personal Takeaway

Having worked on streetwear brands before, I was no stranger to the space—but this project was different. The client’s unique vision pushed me to think beyond the usual and find ways to make the brand truly stand out in an already crowded industry. The challenge of reinventing a widely explored aesthetic in a fresh, authentic way pushed my creativity to the limit, and I enjoyed every moment of the process.

One of the biggest takeaways was a deeper understanding of early 2000s typography and graphic elements. Exploring the design language of that era in such detail gave me new insights that I know will influence my future work. This project wasn’t just about creating a brand—it was about rediscovering a cultural moment and bringing it into a new, modern space.

Let’s make
something epic!
