The Challenge

Background

When the clients first approached me, they had a vision—a quaint family retreat nestled in charming A-frame houses, paired with their distillery business and the warmth of homemade traditional Serbian cuisine. While their dream was clear, they lacked a name, a creative direction, and a brand identity to bring it all to life. My challenge was to craft a brand that felt like a heartfelt nod to tradition while embracing a fresh, modern aesthetic. It needed to be both cozy and contemporary, blending the soul of Serbian heritage with the sleekness of current design standards.

Goals

The primary objective of the project was clear from the start: to find the perfect name — a name that would become the cornerstone of the entire brand. After thoughtful exploration, we landed on Hedonizam, the Serbian word for Hedonism, which beautifully captured the essence of their business and the laid-back, indulgent vibe they envisioned.

With the name set, the next challenge unfolded: crafting a timeless Brand Identity and Strategy. My goal was to create something that felt evergreen — enduring and adaptable — while staying fresh and aligned with modern design trends. This meant not only developing a strong visual identity and brand vision but also collaborating closely with architects to ensure that every element, from the A-frame houses to the surrounding landscape, told a cohesive and harmonious story.

Constraints

One of the biggest challenges in this project was the tight timeline. With just one year to take the concept from an initial idea to a fully realized brand strategy—and to see the A-frame houses built—the clock was ticking from day one.

Adding to the complexity, the project brought together a diverse team: architects, interior designers, construction workers and the owner. Balancing creative direction with practical execution required not only strong leadership but also seamless communication. My role was to ensure that every collaborator, regardless of their discipline, was aligned with the brand vision—keeping the project on track and the creative vision intact.

The Approach

Research

Situated in a National Park, on the edge of a serene forest and just 20 kilometers from the nearest city, the location offered both charm and challenges. The area was rich with tourism, surrounded by destinations worth exploring, which meant the competitor analysis needed to be thorough. My primary goal during the research phase was clear: analyze what competitors were doing and find a fresh, unique approach that would set Hedonizam apart.

However, given the project's distinct nature, traditional inspiration was hard to come by. Rather than following existing models, I had to blend diverse influences or venture into entirely new creative territory. With a historic monastery nearby and a fine dining restaurant just next to the site, the vision became a fusion of the two worlds—capturing the tranquility and heritage of the monastery while embracing the modern, refined experience of fine dining. This balance of tradition and modernity became the foundation of the brand's creative direction.

Design Process

With the name, concept, and overall brand essence defined, it was time to bring Hedonizam to life visually. Given the brand’s fusion of tradition and modernity, every design element needed to reflect that balance. This also meant creating two versions of the identity—one in Cyrillic for Serbian-speaking customers and another in Latin for broader accessibility, including English-speaking guests.

The process began with the foundation: the logo. I developed a logo proposal that established the core design principles, ensuring that every other element would align seamlessly. Once the logo was finalized, I expanded the identity system, crafting a comprehensive Visual Identity Guidelines document that detailed everything—from color palettes and typography to photography presets and social media aesthetics.

With the core branding in place, we moved into the tangible applications. Print materials were designed for both marketing and in-house branding, ensuring a cohesive experience across all touchpoints. The final step involved close collaboration with the interior designer—curating accessories, selecting decor, and designing artwork for the A-frame houses. This final layer brought everything together, making sure the brand extended beyond visuals into a fully immersive experience.

Tools Used

To bring the Hedonizam brand to life, I relied on a carefully selected set of tools that supported each phase of the design process. Adobe Illustrator was my primary workspace, perfect for crafting the visual identity with precision and versatility. From logo design to building out the full visual identity system, Illustrator provided the foundation needed for clean, scalable designs.

For refining images and adding depth to visuals, Adobe Photoshop played a crucial role—whether it was fine-tuning photography presets or preparing assets for social media and print. To streamline collaboration and share design ideas, I used Figma. It allowed for smooth visual communication, making it easy to share concepts and gather feedback quickly. Meanwhile, Google Docs and Sheets were essential for organizing information, managing project details, and maintaining clear communication with the broader team.

The Solution

Key Features

The key to Hedonizam’s visual identity was capturing the essence of its surroundings while staying true to the brand’s refined yet welcoming feel. The color palette was directly inspired by nature—the deep greens of the surrounding forests and the rich, earthy reds of the land. To tie in the distillery aspect, I introduced gold and cream tones, adding a touch of warmth and sophistication.

Visually, the brand identity honors the heritage of the location. Bold lines and rich typography create a sense of tradition and strength, while modern design principles ensure a fresh, contemporary appeal. Every element was carefully chosen to strike a balance between rustic charm and modern elegance, making the brand feel both timeless and relevant.

The Outcome

Client Feedback

From the very beginning, Nemanja played a crucial role in shaping the Hedonizam brand. We started with nothing—no name, no clear direction—and he guided us through the entire process, from branding and design to creative strategy. He found the perfect balance between tradition and modern aesthetics, creating a brand that truly represents what we envisioned.

What stood out the most was his ability to collaborate with so many different teams—architects, interior designers, and construction crews—making sure everything stayed true to the brand. His attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving mindset made a huge difference. We’re beyond happy with the final result and couldn’t have asked for a better partner on this project.

Personal Takeaway

Working on the Hedonizam project was a transformative experience for me. It was not only one of the largest projects I've tackled—considering the scope of work, the diverse team involved, and the tight one-year timeline—but also a true test of my skills and adaptability.

One of my biggest takeaways was the importance of clear communication and effective collaboration. Coordinating with architects, interior designers, construction teams, and stakeholders required a proactive approach to ensure everyone stayed aligned with the brand vision. I also honed my research and information-gathering skills, learning how to draw insights from competitor analysis and translate them into unique design solutions.

On a personal level, managing my time and responsibilities was a significant challenge. Balancing creativity with organization taught me how to maintain momentum even when the workload felt overwhelming. Ultimately, this project reinforced my confidence in handling complex, multidisciplinary projects and showed me the value of strategic planning and open communication.

Let’s make
something epic!
